September 22 - Healthy Living for ME Recognizes September as Falls Prevention Awareness Month
Statewide - September is Falls Prevention Awareness Month, a time to recognize the impact that falls have on the lives of millions of Americans each year and take steps to prevent falls.
The U.S. CDC reports that each year one in four adults over the age of 65 experiences a fall. Additionally, the National Council on Aging reports that an older adult is seen in an emergency room every 11 seconds due to a fall-related injury.
“Healthy Living for ME is actively making a difference for Mainers who are at risk for falls. Through workshops and resource connections, network partners throughout the state are helping Mainers reduce their risk of falls and improve their quality of life,” said Jennifer Fortin, Training & Fidelity Manager of Healthy Living for ME. “During this Falls Prevention Awareness Month, we encourage Mainers to assess their own risk for falls and have conversations about preventing falls with loved ones who may be at risk.”

Jan. 2022 - Healthy Living for ME Partners with Maine CDC to Support Pharmacists in Diabetes Prevention Efforts
Pharmacists invited to attend informational sessions on National Diabetes Prevention Program
Statewide - The Maine CDC and Healthy Living for ME are partnering in an effort to help pharmacists provide their patients with more resources to prevent diabetes. In Maine, it is estimated that 10% of the population has diabetes and another 8% are aware they are pre-diabetic.

Dec. 2021 - Healthy Living for ME to Offer National Diabetes Prevention Program
Free, virtual workshop will begin in February
Statewide - Healthy Living for ME will be offering the National Diabetes Prevention Program to Mainers in 2022. The workshop is for adults who are at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes or who have pre-diabetes. It is estimated that over 86,000 Mainers are aware they have prediabetes.
