Nov. 2021 - Jennifer Fortin

During the holiday season as we spend time with family and friends, the importance of taking care of our health and wellness is often clarified. We want to be as active and healthy as we can to enjoy these moments as fully as we can. And, as we approach the new year, many of us start thinking about making positive changes in our lives and improving our health.

That’s why I think it’s a good time to let people know about how Healthy Living for ME (HL4ME) can help Mainers better manage their health in 2022. Beginning in January, we have several workshops that can help Mainers get the new year started right. The first week of January alone we have Living Well for Better Health, Better Health Now, Living Well with Diabetes, and Bingocize all starting up. These workshops are all conducted online or via phone, making them easy to access no matter where you are in the state.

Living Well for Better Health and Better Health Now are focused on helping adults of any age better manage chronic/ongoing conditions such as COPD, arthritis, heart disease, and others. Living Well with Diabetes addresses topics like managing the symptoms of diabetes and strategies and education around exercise, medication, and communication with healthcare providers. Bingocize is a fun, active, bingo-themed program geared toward improving older adultsfunctional fitness. Later in January, we have our Building Better Caregivers workshop (online), Tai Chi workshop (online), and Living Well with Chronic Pain workshop (in-person).

As the Training & Fidelity Manager for HL4ME, I see up close every day how committed our team is to making a difference in Mainerslives. Our partners throughout the state, our staff, our volunteer leaders, and workshop participants come together to help make Maine a healthier state. Its an impressive, inspiring effort, and I encourage you to visit our website (www.healthylivingforme.org), email us (info@healthylivingforme.org), or call (1-800-620-6036) to find out more about workshops that can help you or one of your loved ones. Have a happy, healthy holiday season!
